I need help with a sterling silver engagement ring.?
My fiancé purchased a beautiful diamond engagment ring for me. The material is sterling silver and now I am worried that the ring will tarnish. Does anyone have a sterling silver ring that they have had for a substantial amount of time? Or does anyone know of a reallygood product that will keep tarnish off? I want to protect my beautiful ring as I intended to keep it on forever.
I currently keep the ring on my fnger at all times except to wash dishes, shower, etc. The ring is a "temporary ring" until he has finished paying for the "real" ring. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will keep the ring silver and just take extra time to clean it until it begins to tarnish. Then we may have it reset. Thanks for all the help.
I would take it to a jeweler and have it plated in white gold, it's not going to be that expensive because you're just having it covered basically, and that will keep the ring from tarnishing, however, you're going to have to go about every three years and have it re-plated as it will wear off depending on use (like washing dishes with it on showering etc.) As for just leaving it Sterling Silver, the best thing you can do it wash it with a good jewelery cleaner and when you take it off keep it out of the sunlight and the air, those are both things that cause tarnish, you can also store it with a piece of white chalk (like the kind you write on a chalk board with to help prevent the tarnishing (like if you take your ring off at night, put it in a drawer with the piece of chalk). But other then that, there isn't really any other option, it's just what happens to sterling silver, however keep in ming the higher quality the silver the longer it will have before it tarnishes as well. Good Luck!!!
