The Anderson University Student Government Association will collect donations on Thursday, Jan. 21, immediately following chapel to benefit Haiti relief efforts. The student-led initiative will allow contributions to be made to the Red Cross, World Vision, or the Church of God Disaster Relief Fund.
The first $1,000 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Student Government Association. The university has secured commitments from donors to match up to $10,000 of student contributions. The goal is for 100 percent participation by the Anderson University community. Boxes will be placed outside the chapel doors on Thursday to collect donations.

Brent Baker, vice president for Student Life and dean of students, praised the efforts of the Anderson University student body to address the present crisis.
“It is always so encouraging when our students take the initiative on campus to respond to a need,” Baker said. “This has happened numerous times in my almost nine years at AU. I am grateful for SGA’s leadership among their peers and our broader community as we try to do our part in bringing relief to this suffering country. I hope every person on our campus will give something.”
SGA Vice President Chris Green noted the crisis in Haiti has deeply affected many in the AU community. “Some of us have been to Haiti. Some of us are from Haiti,” he said. “It’s been an incredibly trying time … And it’s time for us to stand up and do what we’re called to do.”
Anderson University invites those who are not able to be present on Thursday to donate directly to the following relief organizations:
- Red Cross
- World Vision
- Church of God Disaster Relief Fund
